INTERVIEW: July

July | October 8, 2022

Hi July, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you for the interview. It’s a pleasure to get a request for an interview. I’m good; I’ve been chilling like a villain.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “NRVANA”?

NRVANA is my second single. It’s a follow up to my debut single ‘Mood’ that I released last year. I’m excited for people to finally hear it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The song is inspired by an event based upon a strong relationship that is reunited after having spent many years with the wrong soul. The title of the song NRVANA (deriving from Nirvana) means a positive, healthy state of mind. This corresponds to the two lovers being in the state of nirvana after finally being reunited with each other.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

The visual for the song has already been shot and will be released on the same day of the track or shortly after.

The single comes off your new album Funny – what’s the story behind the title?

Ha – I’m not sure where ‘Funny’ has come from. I haven’t thought about a name yet, mind you I am loving ‘Vents’ – I’ll keep it mind.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was genuine and organic. The recording process was intense but well prepared for.

What role does London play in your music?

London has played a part in being a city full of a diversity of different sounds, experiences, artistry and cultures, which encouraged me to create my personal bodies of work.

How has Phil Collins and 50 Cent influenced your writing?

I have always been open and appreciative to all genres of music. 50 Cent’s ‘The Massacre’ was the first ever-hard copy of music I ever bought as a child and the rhyming, flow and energy inspired me. Phil Collins has a unique sound. There’s an emotional connection with his music, which spoke to me growing up as a child. My mother was a big fan too which helped.

What’s been like to work with MLB and how did that relationship develop?

Working with MLB has been an organic and brotherly process. I first met him through a mutual friend of ours. He brought me to MLB’s house and he heard some of the music I was initially working on. He saw my potential and since then we’ve formed a very strong bond and he’s become a mentor to me.

How much has he been influencing your record?

He has played a huge role in this record and has influenced me to bring the best out of myself.

How’s your new album coming along?

I am working on my debut album at the minute and making steady progress. There are bodies of work that I am yet to release and there are ones that I am working on. They are growing organically and soon to be completed hopefully.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing planned right this minute. I’d like to get it out some time next year though. We’ll keep you posted.

Any plans to hit the road?

I hope to hit the road soon so I can share my music with the world. Keep your eyes pealed on my socials for live dates.

What else is happening next in July’s world?

A lot more music, art and an unexpected surprise to come from myself in the future.
